The Norwegian Banks' Guarantee Fund administers the deposit guarantee scheme in Norway. A guarantee that gives everyone access to safe bank deposits.

The deposit guarantee reduces the risk that many customers will withdraw their money at the same time if doubts arise about a bank's condition. If one bank is hit by such withdrawals, it can spread to several. In such a situation, banks may have problems fulfilling their role in the financial system and economic activity in Norway may suffer.

The overall purpose of the deposit guarantee is therefore to contribute to financial stability. A deposit guarantee that every single customer has confidence in is thus useful for society.

The Norwegian Bank’s Guarantee Fund also manages the resolution fund, to ensure the successful handling of banks hit by a crisis.

Our operations are regulated in the Act on the Banks' Guarantee Fund, and the most important rules on the deposit guarantee can be found in chapter 19 of the Financial Institutions Act.
